On a cold January night, I think back on the most amazing summer-/wedding-/birthday party we had last year in my husband's beautiful childhood home in the Danish country side. A beautiful farm - almost build for the occasion!
Not only was it an amazing day, but we had almost as much fun preparing the big day as the party itself. I wanted the party to be inspired by Californian barn weddings and this way I could use my creative skills!
I wanted to draw something for the guests. Something they could use during the day and night and also bring home after as a memory of the day. Since the farm is huge, I decided to draw a map of the place. In that way our guests could explore the surroundings by themselves in a relaxed atmosphere.
At the entrance gate, the waitresses welcomed our guests by handing out these maps, which I have painted by hand and put together into a illustrated map, showing the guest where to eat, sleep, party, where the horses are and of course - where the 'wedding'-ceremony took place (we were already married - so just for fun!).
One by one I painted the different little pieces with water color. Then I took a photo with a really good camera and put all of them together on the computer and added a background. I could also have used a scanner, but I am used to the camera.
Apart from the map, the guests were welcomed with a glass of home made lemonade and pallet with a hand-painted schedule of the day.

The idea of an illustrated map can be used for all kinds of parties, invitations etc. It is a nice little personal feature to add to your event. Contact me if you need something illustrated!
